Installation

Download

Visit the Alma website to download the latest version for your platform.

macOS

1. Download the .dmg file for your processor:

   • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3): Alma-x.x.x-arm64.dmg
   • Intel: Alma-x.x.x-x64.dmg

2. Open the downloaded .dmg file

3. Drag Alma to your Applications folder

4. Launch Alma from Applications

First Launch on macOS

On first launch, macOS may show a security warning. Right-click (or Control-click) on Alma and select "Open" to bypass this.

Windows

1. Download the .exe installer from the Download page
2. Run the installer and follow the prompts
3. Launch Alma from your Start menu or desktop shortcut

Linux

Coming soon. Linux support is in development.

Verify Installation

After launching Alma, you should see the main chat interface. The sidebar shows your chat threads, and the main area is where conversations happen.

Next Steps

Now that Alma is installed, continue to Quick Start to configure your first AI provider.

Troubleshooting

macOS: "Alma is damaged and can't be opened"

This happens due to macOS Gatekeeper. Run this command in Terminal:

xattr -cr /Applications/Alma.app

macOS: App crashes on launch

Try these steps:

1. Delete ~/Library/Application Support/alma to reset data
2. Reinstall from a fresh download
3. Check Console.app for crash logs
